PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth won their matches and reached the next round
Nanjing, China: India’s top female badminton player PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth in the men’s section have made it to the pre-quarterfinals of the BWF World Championship 2018. However, another Indian player, HS Prannoy, has dropped out of this tournament.
World number-3 silver medallist Sindhu beat Fitriani of Indonesia 21-14, 21-9 to make it to the next round. These top Indian players will now compete with the 2015 World Championship bronze medallist Sung Ji-Hyun of Korea.
Fifth-seeded Srikanth had to struggle for a 2-hour fight against Pablo Abian of Spain. Srikanth defeated Abian 21-15, 12-21, 21-14 to make the final 16th place. In the next round, the 2012 French Open Super Series winner and Malaysia’s Darren Liew will compete.
India’s B.Sai Praneeth also managed to reach the next round after defeating Spain’s Luis Enrique Penalver 21-18, 21-11. They had to face defeat in Brazil’s Ygor Coelho in the second round. Praneeth failed to convert a good start into victory. They had to face defeat by Coelho 21-8, 16-21, 15-21.
At the same time, two-time Olympic gold medallist Chinese star Lin Dan was unable to cross Sameer Verma, and he lost to Lin Dan, in a 45-minute match, losing 17-21, 14-21. In the second round, Dan will face compatriot and world number-3 Shi Yuqi.
