India defeated New Zealand for the third consecutive time
The Indian men’s hockey team defeated New Zealand 4-0 in the third and final match in the 3-Test series. For India, Rupinder Pal Singh (8th minute), Surender Kumar (15th minute), Mandeep Singh (44th minute) and Akashdeep Singh (60th minute) scored goals for India. Rupinder turned the penalty corner in the first quarter to give the team a 1-0 lead. This was his fourth goal in the tournament. Luminous stick work by Surender Kumar and a clever assist by Rupinder from the top of the striking circle earned India their second goal of the match.
Experienced middle-line Sardar Singh and Simranjeet Singh create an opportunity moment from the left side for Mandeep Singh who overtakes of New Zealand goalkeeper George Enersen and forwarded the team 3-0. Striker, Akashdeep Singh made the team a 4-0 lead in the last 60 minute.
Indian team’s chief coach, Harendra Singh, expressed happiness at the team’s performance before the Asian Games scheduled to be held in Jakarta from 18 August to 2-September. He said that it was beneficial for us to play in the top 10 teams in the rankings before the important events like the Asian Games. During these three matches, we played in different combinations and tried different players in the penalty corners. We are now well prepared for the upcoming tournaments. On Sunday, at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) stadium, India has shown its good performance, the team is better prepared for the 18th Asian game tournament.
