Netherland won the women’s hockey World Cup eight times
London, defending champion Netherland defeated Ireland 6-0 to retain their title in the Women’s Hockey World Cup tournament. Netherland won the title for an eight-time. Apart from the Netherlands, only Germany and Australia women teams have won the title of Women’s World Cup.
Netherland made the six-goal against the hosts in the final played in Sunday’s match. The 16th ranked Ireland in the World Rankings reached the same finals and looked ahead to Netherland superiority. Ireland had to be satisfied with the silver medal, and this performance has reached the top 10 in the world rankings.
Meanwhile, after the defeated by the Netherlands in the semi-finals, Spain beats Australia 3-1 to win a bronze medal. This was the first medal in Spain’s World Cup. The Indian team, who lost in the quarterfinals in the shootout from Ireland, got eighth place. This is the third best performance in India’s World Cup. The Indian team was 4th in 1974, 7th in 1978, 11th in 1983, 12th in 1998, 11th in 2006 and 9th place in 2010.
